FACTS ABOUT MUTOMO » CLIMATE

The Mutomo area is semi-arid. The annual rainfall is about 400 mm. This doesn’t seem very little compared to the figure for Uppsala, 527 mm. However, the big difference is the irregular and uneven distribution of rain in Mutomo. Rainfall is expected from March through May (the long rain period) but rainfall can be scarce and unpredictable. The long rain season is not as predictable as the rainfall of the short rain period, which runs through November. When it rains, they may take the form of heavy rainstorms that cause flooding and erosion.

In between the rain periods, it is dry and the consistently high temperature contributes to periods of drought. The equator is situated 200 km to the north.
